Kiva is an organization that lends money to entrepreneurs around the world. They receive their money to lend through donations from grateful and giving people throughout the world. These budding businesspersons, in mostly enterprising third world countries, are given a chance to better themselves, their families, and their communities by using their small loans to help build their own small businesses, develop housing, and much more.
I gave to a woman in Cambodia who's name is Mrs. Pich Soleab. At age 45, she works selling fish at a busy market, making on average around $3.30 each day in revenue. Her husband is employed as a trailer driver (a motorcycle attached to a trailer to transport passengers). They have one child who is a student. She requested and received a loan of $1000 in order to build separate rooms and rent them to people in her area to make additional profit for her family.
She received these funds on Feb. 15th, 2008. Since this disbursement she has paid back 28% of her loan. For someone who makes $3/day this is quite impressive to me.
I applaud the efforts of the Kiva Organization and look forward to helping more people with their needs and lives in the near future.
